The full songs can be previewed in their entirety at Rick's myspace page. Liner notes: In the making of this disc, I set out to record tunes the way I heard them in different formats. I am a huge fan of the Guitar Organ Trio. So the jazz standards Blues on the Corner, There is No Greater Love, and You the Night and the Music were recorded this way. I especially love the quirky melody on McCoy Tyner's Blues on the Corner which opens up into a traditional straight-ahead blues in Bb for the blowing sections. The other jazz standard My Foolish Heart has been one of my favorite tunes for as long as I can remember. I wanted to use the sensitivities of the guitar and piano in a traditional quartet setting. All the original tunes with the exception of Another Chance are in a sextet format. The recording process used for this session, with the exception of Another Chance, was the musicians played live and recorded anywhere from one to three takes of each tune, and then Rick and I chose the best overall performance, which is what is being presented on this disc. Thanks for giving it a listen and I hope you enjoy it. |
